Kaolin and Calcium carbonates

Calcium Carbonates

Calcium Carbonates are composed of the crystalline mineral, calcite which occurs naturally in the form of chalk, marble or limestone. Chalk is usually finely textured and is relatively impure. Marble deposits are limestones changed by recrystallisation under conditions of extreme heat and pressure. In some cases, this natural process yields pure marble of exceptional whiteness, such as the famous deposits of Carrara in Northern Italy. Calcium carbonates are widely used as extenders in a variety of coatings.

Hydrous Kaolin

Kaolin or china clay is a naturally occuring, hydrated aluminium silicate mineral formed by the hydrothermal degradation of granite. Benefits in coatings include effective TiO2 spacing, good opacity and matting efficiency in high PVC coatings, favourable rheology and thixotropic effects, improved sandability and enamel holdout properties.
